Courses in Lancut
July 16-28, 2010 and the second half of July 2011
During the International Music Festival in Lancut, many students from Barratt Due Institue as well students from music school ZPSM no. 1 from Warsaw had an opportunity to participate in various music activities such as:
- studio instruction, conducted by A. Gębski, G. Gorczyca, K. A. Kulka, A. Lichomanow, S. Lim, W. Marschner, O.E. Ree, T. Strahl oraz J. Wawrowski
- small string ensembles, conducted by W. Marschner and E. Kowar
- chamber orchestra
- four different compositional and improvisation classes, conducted by M. Bembinow. All courses ended with a competition for the best soundtrack for a specific picture screening and a competition for the best improvisation piece on a specific topic.
Above all, all participants performed in a concert hall in Royal Castle on February 23rd, in Lancut. As soon as the concert was over, all performers took pleasure in eating snacks and listening to life folk music in a neighborhood heritage park in Markowa. In addition to this final concert, lots of students had taken part in a series of concerts throughout the festival that were held in another places in the city. Moreover, many students explored different places in Warsaw where the composer used to create his works and spend his free time during his lifetime. At the end of this trip, students got also a chance to go to The Chopin Museum where they could summarize their observations on Chopin’s life.
"I am Elina Rodevic, recently studying in Norway and participated in a Polish-Norwegian music project. This summer I had an opportunity to go to a music course in Lancut, Poland.
We were a group of 8 people coming from Norway but studying in different music colleges .
First of all we arrived to Warsaw and spent some days there with a really interesting program which included museums , parks , excursions and tasty polish food restaurants.
Next our stop was Krakow, but no matter whether how much we wanted to stay in Krokow and see all its beauty, we couldn't handle that extremely hot weather, which where at the time in Poland and went straight to our point Lancut.
Finally we arrived there and we stayed in a cozy hotel named ‘’Sezam’’. At the same evening we went to a concert which was placed in a Lancut castle. The following day I got an information about coming lessons with music professors I chose and also about all extra composition workshops .
Personally I had 5 lessons with 2 different professors – Anrzej Gebskid and Janush Wawrowski. Both of them were really good and I got a lot of musical inspiration while I was working with them. I really liked the atmosphere between students and professors , it wasn’t so formal and could feel free to ask and discuss things I was interested in.
I also liked the composition workshops. Before I've never had this kind of experience in music composing ,but I have been really happy to feel the way composers feel during this summer course. We worked in groups and individual. We have been tought in such an interesting way- we composed electronic music, music for movies and music which is based on polish medieval song. Nevertheless, we had mini competitions and we got lots unknown (yet) information from our dear professor Milosz Bembinov .
During this summer course I played in a chamber ensemble with polish students which made as good friends. And also the opportunity to play in concerts! It was an honor to perform in such a beautiful place like a ballroom of Lancut castle.
Everything was just perfect: professors, place, atmosphere, concerts and people there!
I can say that it was the best music course in my life. And since I am half polish, I can say that I was pround of being a part of it! :)
And special thanks to our group coordinators Magda Igras and Maciej Krasowski who helped in all kinds of situations."
Sincerely,
Elina
